Khum Chao Luang - Rulers Residence

Built in 1892 the residence of the rulers of Phrae is one of the main tourist attractions. It is located right in the city center and offers a glimpse how the rulers of Phrae lived 150 years ago.

It features over 72 windows and doors, elaborate woodcarvings found on the windbreak on the gable and eaves boards, as well as, fretwork around the premises.

It is open daily from 8:30AM to 4:30PM. Entrance is free. Normally there is always an English speaking guide available at the entrance, mostly students practicing their English.

Also make sure to have a look at the cellar, the entrance is next to the main stairway. The cellar was used as a prison and also torture chamber with many images and devices on display how things were done back then.
